Dental Implants are the latest in teeth replacement therapy.  Made with medical grade titanium, dental implants designs have evolved tremendously since its very first debut in 1952.

Today, dental implant treatment offers a predictable, affordable, life-enhancing option for people missing one or more teeth.  It has replaced older unpredictable treatment modalities such as partial dentures, fixed bridgework, or even complete dentures.  Patients choosing dental implant treatment have found it to be a superior treatment because of its predictability, longevity, stability, natural esthetic appearance and improved quality of life.
Dental implants have many advantages over older tooth replacement methods like fixed bridges, removable partial dentures and complete dentures.

Fixed dental implant teeth look and feel very much like your own natural teeth.  There is no need to remove a plate or partial denture after every meal, at bedtime, ever.

Dental implants will out-last and out-perform traditional dental bridges and conventional dentures.  Because dental implants are integrated with your bone, they are secure, non-mobile and effective.  An added bonus - because dental implants are actually attached to the bone (no different than the roots of your teeth), the bone around the implant actually becomes stronger over time and use.  This benefit to the bone is like no other treatment available.  Strong bone equates to stability and security, which equates to improved quality of life.

Every person is different - with their own different treatment needs and solutions.  At Smiles Unlimited Dental, we customize your individual treatment solution according to your needs, wants, and budget.

Generally - Yes.  People who have worn dentures for a while notice bone loss in their jaws (usually the denturist compensates for the bone loss by building the denture with more acrylic/plastic).  Despite this, most patients who seek out dental implant treatment still have sufficient bone and are suitable candidates for dental implant therapy.

Fortunately, techniques such as Teeth to Stay—All in 1 Day© allow even patients with a minimal amount of remaining bone to take advantage of dental implants. Nearly all edentulous patients can be fitted with dental implants to replace their dentures.

Dental implants:
  • Provide a permanent solution. Dental implants are fixed and stable – there are no loose parts to worry about losing. Normally, implants will serve its owner for life.
  • Preserve natural teeth. With traditional dental bridges – teeth adjacent to missing teeth are ground down to be used as anchors for a dental bridge. Dental implants eliminate the need to modify healthy teeth.
  • Improve appearance. When an entire tooth (crown and root) is lost – shrinkage of the jawbone may cause your face to look older (“sunken in”). Because dental implants fuse with your bone, they can stop the shrinkage process.
  • Allow you to live Life to the Full . . . Denture-Free!
Yes.  No different than your original natural teeth, dental implants will also need regular check-ups/cleaning to keep everything healthy.
No different than a typical dental filling visit, dental implants can be placed through very small incisions in the anesthetized (numb) gum.  We also offer moderate sedation for patients who choose not to be alert for their dental treatment.

Most (if not all) of our patients report experiencing no discomfort during or after the treatment visit.  As well, most patients are able to return to work and their busy routines the very next day.  Where possible, patients leave the office with their teeth in place - thus, never having to be “toothless” for any length of time.

Within days, the gum will heal over the implant.  Within months, the bone will heal into the implant completely.  At that point, you will need to visit our office (usually twice) for impressions and fitting of the final tooth.
You should care for your dental implants in the same manner you would care for your own natural teeth.  Regular brushing, flossing, water-picking and routine check-ups/cleanings are all part of a healthy dental lifestyle.
